Corporate Translations Participates in the Development of Entrepreneurs from Kenya

The Connecticut Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (CCEI) and its Family Business Program at the University of Connecticut School of Business has partnered with the Global Training and Development Institute (GTDI) at UConn’s Continuing Studies Program to teach entrepreneurship and innovation to young Kenyan Entrepreneurs.  The Kenyan Young Entrepreneur Program – facilitated through TechnoServe-Kenya and funded by a US State Department grant – aims to reduce poverty and increase economic development in impoverished areas around the world.  Fourteen Kenyan delegates have arrived at UConn and are currently undergoing business studies and job shadowing at various firms around the state.

Internationally recognized leaders in the field of economic development, TechnoServe-Kenya and UConn are working in coordination with the US Embassy in Kenya to select 28 young Kenyan entrepreneurs between the ages of 25-35 who are most likely to utilize the knowledge gained to grow businesses, create jobs, and become community business leaders. Those selected will spend four weeks in the U.S. developing their business skills and enhancing their understanding of the U.S. through a combination of workshops, seminars, business internships, and cultural activities. Workshop sessions will be led by faculty at the CCEI, Family Business Program, Continuing Studies, and TechnoServe-Kenya business advisors. The first cohort of Kenyan entrepreneurs arrived on April 8th with the second cohort set to arrive on October 14th.

Corporate Translations in conjunction with other private sector small businesses agreed to work with UConn to set up the mentoring and job shadowing elements of the program – underscoring the CCEI’s advancements in experiential learning.

“The Corporate Translations Staff was proud to share its experience in working for a company that  grew because of the strong entrepreneurial spirit of its Founder and President, Mary Gawlicki. At Corporate Translations we are always looking for ways to develop young professionals and foster the growth of our global work force” notes Jill Balcerzak, Manager of Organizational Development and Strategic Marketing.
